Instantly search files across all your indexed drives — even when they're unplugged. Find any file in seconds, not minutes.
Search inside documents, spreadsheets, and code files. Optional OCR finds text embedded in photos, screenshots, and scanned documents.
Describe what you’re looking for — “sunset at beach”, “dog playing”, “birthday party” — and find matching photos instantly. Powered by on-device AI. No cloud, no uploads, fully offline.
Select any photo and instantly find visually similar images across all your drives. Uses the same on-device AI — no uploads, no cloud. Browse results in a scrollable grid and jump to any match.
Visualize disk usage with sunburst charts, folder breakdowns, and file type distributions. Find storage hogs instantly.
Drives are auto-detected on plug-in. Real-time monitoring keeps your catalog current as long as the app can see the drive.
No cloud accounts, no logins, no data uploads. Your file index stays in your local database. Your data is your data.
Find duplicate files across all drives using fast hash comparison. Group by wasted space, review matches, and export reports.
See where your photos were taken on an interactive offline/online map with clustered markers, thumbnail popups, and EXIF GPS extraction.
Every file is cataloged with size, type, dimensions, and duration. Photos get full EXIF: camera, lens, aperture, ISO, and GPS.
View photo, video, and document thumbnails without the drive connected. Supports JPEG, PNG, HEIC, RAW, MP4, PDF, and more.
Collect files into named lists, then copy, move, rename, or delete in batch. Disconnected drives are skipped and resume on reconnect.
Configure per-drive folder exceptions to skip cache directories and noisy system paths. Keep your index clean and focused.
Export your complete drive inventory to CSV. Filter by file type, choose per-drive or combined modes, and auto-split for Excel.
Browse any NTFS drive instantly without scanning. Reads the Master File Table directly, loading millions of files in seconds. Search by filename across the entire drive.
Plug in exFAT, FAT32, or any USB drive and browse immediately. No scanning, no indexing — folder-by-folder navigation with thumbnails and file operations.
Search files by date range, find photos from specific events, or discover recurring anniversaries across years. Filter by modified, created, or EXIF date taken.
Rename hundreds of files with pattern tokens — {name}, {seq}, {date}, {parent}, and more. Preview every change before executing. Works on any connected drive.
Two detection modes: fast name+size matching for quick scans, or deep BLAKE3 content hashing that catches renamed files with identical contents.
Dark, Light, Dual Glow, Metal, Aqua Flow, and Viper. Every chart, button, status indicator, and sidebar adapts automatically to your chosen theme.
Changes on connected drives appear instantly via filesystem watchers and the NTFS USN Journal. File creates, renames, and deletes reflect without rescanning.
Customize ignore patterns, MFT toggle, and indexing options per drive. Each drive remembers its own configuration independently.
Queue copy, move, rename, or delete operations across multiple drives — plugged in or disconnected. Execute everything in one click when drives reconnect.
Search and browse drives that aren’t connected. Plan operations, review metadata, and queue actions for when drives return. Your catalog never expires.
See all your drives at a glance. Filter by connection status, search across everything, and sort by name, size, or last indexed date.
Every feature runs entirely on your device. No cloud, no accounts, no limits. Tap the eye to preview the desktop UI.

DiscoverFile can make network requests in to check for updates or license validation. — If you choose to click “Open in Google Maps” on a geotagged photo or interact with the detailed map option. No data is captured, transmitted or provided to us. Every feature — indexing, searching, browsing, thumbnails, EXIF extraction, duplicates, exports, simple geo-map locations, OCR, File Operations — works entirely offline with no cloud, no accounts, and no data ever leaving your machine.
Absolutely — that’s the core feature. Once a drive is indexed, you can search filenames, browse folder trees, view thumbnails, read EXIF metadata, and explore GPS photo locations, all without the drive plugged in. DiscoverFile is a true offline file catalog for disconnected drives.
During initial indexing, memory usage can vary depending on how many CPU threads you set in the Global Settings. More cpus means more jobs that can be assigned and consume more memory. The optional OCR indexing phase can be one of the heaviest running phases but after the first initial scan of a drive completes, resource usage drops down to idle levels and performance remains fast.
After the initial indexing, DiscoverFile idles in the background — minimal CPU and memory usage while it monitors connected drives for changes in real-time. However, if you have MFT enabled for NTFS supported drives, you will see higher memory usage. This is similiar to how other tools such as "Everything" from Voidtools works loading the MFT into memory.
Roughly 10 MB per 100,000 files for the index. Thumbnails are 5-15 KB each at 256x256. A 100K photo drive uses about 10 MB + 500 MB - 1.5 GB for thumbnails. This can vary heavily depending how many thumbnails you have.
You can view the properties of the applications storage in C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\DiscoverFile.
Yes. DiscoverFile indexes USB removable drives, external hard drives, internal fixed drives, microSD cards, and network-mapped NAS volumes (via UNC paths). All drive types are detected automatically.
Simply map your NAS to a drive letter under ‘This PC’ and start indexing.
Keep in mind NAS indexing speeds can be drasically different and your network speed, connection, and drive type of NAS play major factors in the speed of the indexing process.
DiscoverFile is currently available as a Windows file indexer for Windows 10 and Windows 11 (x64).
Yes, we plan to create a MacOS version.
Simply uninstall it from your 'Add or Remove Programs' within Windows like any other app. However, to remove any remaining index data, simply delete the entire folder in C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\DiscoverFile.

If you buy the PRO version, the Payment Processor handles your information — not us. We don't want to deal with that. Otherwise your data, is your data. We can't see it, touch it, collect it. The tool can operate offline so you're a blackbox to us and we prefer to keep it that way.
Only if you choose to enable it. DiscoverFile can be completely read-only. If you want to manage files directly, you can enable File Mode in Settings. It uses the same native Windows Shell API as File Explorer, complete with the familiar progress dialog, pause/resume, and cancel. Permanent deletes require a hold-to-confirm button to prevent accidents.
